1.Introduction
Omniknight is one of the few heroes that can take Moonfang and Juggernaut on the riverside. In fact, he can win them without any damage when 1 on 1. He can be a great hero killer if he is used properly. Other than that, Omniknight is also one of the best suppotive hero. No doubt about that. Most of his skills are very useful for his allies and him, his skills are designed to save his allies' life too. He has more chances to escape a gangbang due to his excellent skills that prevent enemies from doing anything harmful to him. A great hero to try it out. My guide will teach you both the hero killing and pushing/supportive tactics so that you can win your DotA game. =)
2.Life History

A holy man of the Gods, Purist applies his holy spells to support or defensive spells. He protects and enhances his allies in everything he does, but can also damage and inhibit his enemies.

4.Skills Description
Purification ®
Instantly heals a friendly unit and damages all enemy units 300 AoE within the target.
Level 1 - Heals for 90 hit points.
Level 2 - Heals for 180 hit points.
Level 3 - Heals for 270 hit points.
Level 4 - Heals for 360 hit points.
Cooldown : 7/7/7/7
Mana Cost : 100/120/140/160
Notes - An important skill that helps you to stay inside your lane for a longer time. Purification is just like a free flasks. Although it won't heal as much as flask, the damage deal to your enemies around is better than the extra HP healed from flask. This skill can also be casted on your allies too. It save your allies' lifes. They should be grateful that you are their teammate. Heal yourself if you have around 1/3 or 1/4 health so that you won't waste it.
Methods of using Purification
Offensive
Most player will only focus on the HP healed from purification, they often forgot the damage that will do to their surrounding enemies.
The damage deal to your enemy can be used as a finishing move IF they are so brave to fight with you 1 on 1 without running away until they have low health.
Why must be a finishing move? Because most of the heroes will run once they notice they have low health, purification will just finish them off.
Imagine if you use purification in the middle of the combat, you will have to chase the hero and kill him with your normal attack. No doubt that degen aura will help you chase your opponent down easier, but what if they are near the tower or they have ww or blink?
You may think that if they have low health, you can just chase into tower range and kill them, but you may take a risk of being kill by the tower, your purification have not finish cooling down because you use it at the in the middle of your combat. So i think that it is better to use it as a finshing move.
Furthermore, using it as a finishing move will kill your enemy off and heal the HP you lost during the combat, 1 stone can kill 2 birds. =) Of course, if you are losing the combat, heal yourself and RUN!
Defensive
If your opponent is a pusher (e.g prophet), you can cast your purification on your creep to damage your opponent creeps. Do not think that it is not worth it, pusher can be a great threat to your team. Use this method wisely, do not spam it blindly.
You will need purification to heal yourself sometimes to stay in the lane for a longer time too. So mana is the problem now when using this method because you need to focus on two things.
Judgement is very crucial. Use it if your opponent's creeps is more than your creep by half or 1 time.
Supportive
Don't hestitate to heal your ally if he or she really needs help.
If both your ally and you have low life, this will depend on which type of hero he or she belongs to. If he is a agi or int hero, heal them first. Omni is a str hero, he has higher health so he can tank more whereas a agi and int can't.
Repel (E)
Creates a powerful divine ward that blocks all magic from affecting a target unit.
Level 1 - Lasts 5 seconds.
Level 2 - Lasts 10 seconds.
Level 3 - Lasts 15 seconds.
Level 4 - Lasts 20 seconds.
Cooldown : 20/20/20/20
Mana Cost : 60/70/80/90
Note - A excellent skills to look at. This is just like a free BKB. You can cast this again and again provided that you have enough mana. Immune to magic is a serious threat to your opponents because a lot of DotA heroes need spell to conduct their deadly combo (Rhasta, Lion, Earthshaker). Repel will just screw their combo up. Always cast repel on yourself first if you wanna backstab a hero.
Methods of using Repel
Escaping
Repel can be used as a escaping tool. If there are 2 or more heroes chasing you, cast repel on yourself first. Do not worry that they will catch up with you, degen aura will do the job. Repel will prevent them from doing any spell to you thus, they can't stun you. Quickly run to the nearest tower for protection.
If their movement speed are so fast that degen aura can't prevent them from not catching you up. Cast Guardian Angel and run.
You may think that why not cast purification and run or cast purification and then repel and run.
First, if you cast purification and run, it will help you to endure a little while, but it won't helps you to endure the spell damage until you reach the tower.
Second, if you cast purification and then repel, it is too risky. Your opponent may just stun you during the time you are using purification and gangbang you or get near to you.
Supportive
If there is a combat between your team and your opponent team, observe who they are always aiming first and cast repel on him. A calm mind is needed to observe clearly who to cast repel on.
You can also cast it on the most outstanding player of your team so that he can perform hero killing easier when immune to magic.
From the view of supporting your teammate, you can cast purification then repel on your teammate when they are running away from opponent because when casting purification, they can still move and run so it won't delay them from escaping.
Furthermore when they see an ally coming out to help his teammate, opponent will tend to run. Worst of all, it's still a Omniknight that is supporting it. The escaping hero may just turn around from 1/4 life to 1/2 life and gangbang the hero that is chasing him or her. =)
Degen Aura (U)
Greatly degenerates the movement capabilities of units that stray within 400 AoE.
Level 1 - Reduces movement speed by 7%.
Level 2 - Reduces movement speed by 14%.
Level 3 - Reduces movement speed by 21%.
Level 4 - Reduces movement speed by 28%.
Note - A important passive skill that will help you both to hero kill easier and escape easier from melee heroes.
Not only that, it can also be a supportive skill. E.g when your opponent is chasing your ally, you can probably get near to them and attack them.
By doing this, their movement speed will reduce and also taking damage at the same time, thus they will back off and stop chasing.
From the point of view of making an attack, it can slow your opponent so that your allies and catch up with the enemy and attack them. Doesn't really have a method of using it as it is a passive skill, the uses of this skill are all mentioned above.
Guardian Angel (G)
Grants all friendly units within 800 AoE 1000 armor and 25 HP/ second regeneration.
Level 1 - Lasts 5 seconds.
Level 2 - Lasts 7 seconds.
Level 3 - Lasts 9 seconds.
Cooldown: 90
Mana Cost: 120/ 175/ 250
Note - A fantastic supportive and escaping skill. Grants invunerable physically and increase hit point regen greatly, this skill is a must to use when there is a big fight during any time of the game. It can be use in 3 different ways too.
Methods of using Guardian Angel
Escaping
Situation 1
Guardian Angel grants you invunerabilty and increase hit point regen. If you notice that you have low health, quickly cast GA if your opponent is a hero that can kill you with physical attacks.
Now your have 2 options
- Continue to fight with him IF your opponent have low or a little bit more health than you.
- Run if his HP is more than you by 1/3 or 1/2.
If your enemy HP is more than you by 1/4, you can probably use purification to heal yourself and continue to fight with him. You are actually taking a risk when doing this, because you could possibly lose to him.
Situation 2
Actually this is not consider as escaping, it is considered as making your opponent be the one who is escaping.
In situation 2, you will be facing heroes that finish you off using spell with low health. When facing this kind of heroes, there is a tactic to scare your opponent off.
Cast repel, cast GA and fight with them. Because most of the heroes that depend on spells are usually low health heroes. Sooner or later, they will find out that they can't do anything to you and they will start running. Once they start escaping do not chase, just let them flee and you run for your life too. Because your repel is finishing soon. If you continue chasing, they may just turn back and cast all their spell on you to finish you off. Thus don't chase unless you have 100% confident that you can kill them.
Pushing
Guardian Angel can be used to push also. Only use it when your creeps are more than your opponent creeps or when your creep reaches opponent tower and opponent's creeps have not reached yet.
Supportive
It is neccessary to cast GA when there is any big fight in any time of the game. MUST to cast it. The 1000 armour added is very essential to your teammates.
Timing on when to use it is also very important. You can't possibly cast it when your allies are all more than 3/4 life. It will not maximize the potential of GA. When you notice than any of your teammate is less than 1/2 life, probably 1/3 life, cast GA to grant them 1000 armour and also increase their HP regen so that they won't be killed by your opponent. It is not easy to do that. Precise observation is very important because the situation of big fight are usually very chaotic.
5.Skill Builds
In this section, i am going to talk about 2 different kinds of build, one is facing nukers and 1 is facing non nukers. Both builds can perform hero kill, so do not worry that i do not have a hero killing build.
vs nukers/massive stunners(lich, zeus)

Level 17-25 - Stats
This is the skill build you will use when facing heavy nukers like lich or zeus. The main aim of this build is to stay in the lane longer at the same time, doing some damage to your opponent. Purification is very important as it helps a lot when facing nukers or non nukers. Level 2 which is 10 seconds of repel is just enough for you to perform the things listed below. After pumping 2 level of repel and of course GA, degen aura will be next. Like i said, 10 seconds is just enough for you to escape from deadly nukers, so pump 2 level of degen aura will balance off his skill more. What do i mean by balancing off his skills? Because all omniknight skills are very important, so pumping 2 level of repel then degen aura will make balance off his hero killing and escaping potential. This build will help you to survive in early and the true potential of this build will usually appear when you reached level 10.
Purification will help
1. to heal back the HP you took from their spells
2. damage your opponents by healing creeps
3. heal your ally if he or she needs it urgently
Level 2 of repel before pumping degen aura
1. prevent them from finishing you off with spells
2. support your ally if he or she needs it urgently
(repel acts as a defensive skill rather than a spell for offensive during early game, thats why i said 10 sec of repel is just enough for you to escape.)
Why Purification instead of stats?
Well, actually I think that Purification is more important than stats. Indeed stats will give you more mana to spam Purification, but mana can be added or regen back by items. Whereas the amount healed and damage to you and your opponent respectively can't be replaced by any items. Can you find an item that will heal you and damage your opponent at the same time? No u can't. So i think purification a much better skills to get when compared to stats.
Why Degen Aura instead of stats?
You may think that pumping stats is more important than Degen aura because Omniknight doesn't really used Degen Aura during level 8 and 9. It's true that he does not really needs it. Pumping it is mostly because of reaching hero killing potential faster. What do i mean by that? When you reached level 12, you should have level 2 of GA, level 3 of Degen Aura and Repel, with these level of skills, you can start your hero killing already. If you get stats instead of Degen Aura. You will probably have to wait until level 14 to reach a BETTER hero killing potential.
vs non-nukers(bone, faceless)

This is the skill build used when you are facing non-nukers. Since they are non-nukers, pumping repel before level 6 will be a waste. Furthermore, degen aura will help you to slow your enemy so that more damage can be done to them.
Lets give an example, when you are charging towards a bone, he will usually shoot you a few times then run back or he will flee straight away. If he flee, you have no gain or loss. If he shoot you a few times before you hit him, he MS will decrease once you get near to him and thus, you can catch up with him and hit him a few times to lower his HP.
As for purification, i still have to say the same thing, and that is purification is very important no matter you are facing nukers or non-nukers or not.
Level 8 is usually the time where gangbang always occur, so there may be stunners or spell-casters from other lane coming to your lane to gangbang you. Thus, 1 level of repel will be a measure of safety precaution.
6.Item Builds/Gameplay
There are a lot of different items that can be bought when using omni. I shall talk about the items you should buy and which type of items will display off which type of omniknight you are. 1 chaser build and 1 supporting/pushing build.
Note * It doesn't mean that you can't play a supportive role when using chaser build. You can be one too. Only that the effects won't be as good as the S/P build.

Comment - An MUST item for pusher. Teleportation will save lots of unneccessary travelling time. And you can teleport to another lane anytime to push and force your enemies back to defend.

This item is needed to make S&Y too. When it is upgraded to S&Y, chasing will be much much easier.

Comment - The combination of Sange and Yasha. An great item that works fantastically with degen aura as it will help to chase your opponent down with ease. The 16 str and agi added allow you to have more health to tank and also, incr Omniknight slow attack speed disadvantage. Double up the increase of MS and AS from yasha. 5% added for both MS and AS will slightly ensure hero killing easier, another 5% more will be allow you to escape or hero kill faster. Chances of maim effect appearing have also gone up by 5% too. When maim, the decrease of AS and MS of your target have increased too. Overall, it is a excellent item that helps you on hero killing and chasing, buying it will not be wrong.

Explaination for this build
This build is mainly a build with hero killing and supporting potential. With the combination of power treads, S&Y and degen aura, your opponent can never escape unless they have blink or ww.
Why do i say so? Because your opponent MS is reduced by degen aura and perhaps maim, while your MS and AS are increased due to power treads and S&Y, so your opponent is at the losing state because of your skill and you are at the winning state because of all this chasing skill and items. Double slow is very demoralising for your opponent. The relationship between skills and items or items and items are very important factors to hero kill.
I've chosen guinsoo for this build is because i can spam purification to damage creeps and support your allies by healing them and also to cast repel continuously on them without worrying of unsufficient mana when battling with opponent. Hex disable your opponent too.
Mekansm and boots of travel are items that will help you to push as well as defend fast and efficiently.
Ring of Basilius is an item that will help you in regenerating back mana to spam your spells in early game
If the game have not ended, buying a Heart of Tarrasque. It is an item that makes you more unkillable and able to tank for your teammate.
Think that my total cost is too expensive? Well, actually my item build ends at Guinsoo. I've added a Heart just in case that the game gets too long and you do not know what to buy.

Comment - Double GA is nice. Double GA will means 18 seconds of "invunerability physically" which is a frustration to your opponent. 40 damage added will help in killing creeps or perhaps heroes sometimes at a faster rate. The mana regen ensure you to spam your skills without worrying the amount of man too.

Early Game (Level 1 to 9)
During this time, you are very weak. Play like normal melee heroes, stay behind your range creep to leech EXP, at the same time get the last hit of the creep. Focus more on farming and staying in the lane by not taking neccessary damage. Use purification to heal yourself if your lane opponent is a range hero that is harassing you heavily. Push and perform some hero killing if you have the opportunity too.
Techniques on Farming
First of all, farming really is a test of estimation. You must roughly estimate by the time you reaches the opponent creep from your own range creep, will your opponent's creep be in red life so that you get the last hit of it? In this mini section, i will teach your how to farm properly. Let your OWN CREEP be A and OPPONENT'S CREEP be B. 2A mean 2 of your creeps, 3A mean 3 of your creeps and so on.
If A is hitting B, wait for it life to fall until 1/6 ans start running from your range creep to get the last hit of it.
If 2A is hitting B, wait for its life to fall until 1/5 and immediately right click on B.
If 3A is hitting B, wait for its life to fall until 1/4 and run towards it to get the last hit of it.
If 4A is hitting B, wait for its life to fall until 1/2 and quickly run towards it and get the last hit of it.
Hero tactics
2v1 (gangbang your opponent)
When performing a gangbang, choose a stunner in your team to gang the hero you want. Cast repel on either you or your ally before gangbanging, who to cast on will depend on who can perform better with repel. An example will be sand king will perform better with repel because no one can stop his epic, in this case you can cast it on sk. Stun your enemy, during the stun duration, get near to your enemy and hit him. Cast purification when the stun duration is finishing. This is a special case, because it is a gangbang, your opponent can't be attacking you, so using purification will mainly because of the damage it does to the victim only. By the time the victim have taken a stun damage, purification damage and a few physical damage from your ally and you, he should be dead or with very low health. If he escapes with low health, keep chasing him and ask your ally to stun again when his stun cooldown is finished.
1v2 (your opponent gangbang you)
This is the situation that is most difficult to cope with. Gangbang is really annoying, thats why i often see players scolding their own teammate : "hero gone never say!" after they were being gangbanged. Gangbanging omni in early game will kill omni easier than gangbanging in late game, thus most people will gangbang him early to prevent him becoming a late game threat. So, if they gangbang you, juz cast repel and run if they are stunners or spell casters, if they are non-spell casters, just run and heal yourself once your life drop to 1/3. Cast GA if it is neccessary.
Harrassing Hero
I must state it clearly that only harrass non-spell casters (bone, juggernaut). You can't afford to harrass spell casters or stunner, omni is still not up to the standard to harrass them at early game. Most people will think that omni definitely can't harrass opponent during early game. You are wrong, omni can be a excellent harrasser too. You must know that whenever you start to attack your opponent, its creeps will attack you. So in this case, your opponent will think that "haha.. with my creeps hitting you, you will definitely lose to me." This kind of thinking is wrong, they do not know that your motive is weakening them and prepare to kill them when they have lesser HP. No doubt that your life will drop faster than them, when your life is almost 1/3, heal yourself and run back to the tower. Wait for your purification to finish its cooldown and do that again and again. You will either kill them or send them back to the fountain or when they see you charging them, they will back off straight away. There is also a easier method to harrass your opponent too, that is cast purification on your creep when they are hitting your enemy at melee range.
Middle Game (Level 10 to 16)
This is the time where you are coming to power, most of your skills are pumped and better items are bought too. You will no longer need to avoid spell casters, in fact you can start to aim on them once they appear in the map. The only problem now is strength heroes. Maybe gangbanging them will solve the problem, but most probably if your teammate and you gangbang a victim, the kill will mostly goes to your teammate because Omniknight mainly plays a supportive role during gangbang.
Middle game is also the part of the game where your allies may want to gather all your teammates and push. DotA is a teamwork game, try to coorperate with your allies if they wanna push. Especially a Omniknight MUST be presence while pushing if they have him in the team.
Hero tactics
1v1 situation
When fighting 1v1 will non-spell caster, always start will normal attack first. Because omni only have purification that can do damage to enemy. You will need it to be a finishing move, and heal yourself if you are losing the combat. If your opponent is brave enough to fight you 1 on 1. Start will physical attacks, since they are non spell casters, repel is'nt neccessary. Keep attacking him, roughly estimate when he will run if he is losing and cast purification on yourself to finish him off. If you are the one losing the battle, cast purification and flee.
If you are fighting with spell casters, do the same thing. Only that before engaging the battle, cast repel on yourself first.
Supportive
When playing supportive role, there are some notes to take. I have all written on the skill build above. But i will just revise it again.
- Use purification to heal your low health ally.
- Cast repel on your ally so that they can perform hero killing easier or to help them escape without taking spell damage.
- Cast GA during big fights or use it to prevent your teammates from dying.
Tactics on pushing
Fast Pushing
Use GA to push if there are more than 3 creeps, you yourself and perhaps your allies attacking the tower AND without too many opponent creeps around too. This means that you will need to clear creep fast in order to reach to tower before your opponent next creep wave arrive. Do not worry about mana, if you wanted to push a tower down or weaken it by a lot, some sacrifice must be done(which is sacrifice your mana!) in order to achieve it. So you will need to spam purification to damage your opponent creeps to clear them off faster. The tower should AT LEAST lost 2/5 life by the time GA ends.
Slow Pushing
Clear your opponent creep wave as fast as possible, push the tower if there are more than 3 creeps hitting the tower( it includes the range creep also). When there are 2 creeps left and 1 of it has around 1/4 HP left, retreat and wait for your next creep wave. Keep doing this if you have the chance and your opponent tower HP will drop and drop slowly. The rate of pushing will become faster and easier as the game goes along. When pushing slowly, you mustn't be impatient and uncautious because it may cost your life.

Good Tactics and Strategies of Omniknight...but ussually if i have an opponent of OmniKnight I will wait for the time that he will heal himself...and that is the time to kill him with the Guinsoo...that is the weakness of omni knight a guinsoo can turn him down...
